Memorial Week 2017

Dear friends of Remembering Srebrenica,

Srebrenica Memorial week is just around the corner and our amazing Community Champions have worked tirelessly to ensure that there are more events than ever in London.

We have highlighted below a selection of events taking place over the next few weeks that will be a powerful way to remember the victims of genocide. Please do show your support by attending events to stand in solidarity with the survivors from Srebrenica.

This Week:

  •  Thursday 29th June. West London Synagogue are hosting a free film screening of the award-winning film, “The Fog of Srebrenica”, followed by a Q and A with the director Samir Mehanovic. If you would like to come along to the film screening, please register as soon as you can by simply emailing or calling 020 7535 0259. Please do this as soon as possible, as for security reasons, the synagogue can only accept those who have registered prior to the event. You may request to bring a guest, but places are given on a first come first serve basis.
  • Friday 30th June Additionally, the synagogue will also be hosting a Bosnian survivor this Friday evening in their Sabbath service, which people of all faith will be welcome to join tohear powerful survivor testimony. Again, please register for this also by contacting or calling 020 7535 0259

  • Sunday 9th July “Memorial Vigil” at The Holiday Inn, Camden. Show solidarity with the Bosnian community by attending this special name reading vigil, where the names of those who died at Srebrenica will be read and remembered. Stories, poems and prayers from Bosnia will be shared to keep the memory alive.
  • Monday 10th July “Srebrenica: an Insider’s Story” at St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace. City Circle are honoured to be hosting two amazingly courageous women from Bosnia who will share their stories on living through war and genocide: Bakira Hasečić, President of the Victims of War Association and Zrinka Bralo, Chief Executive of Migrants Organise.
  • Tuesday 11th July Srebrenica Memorial Day. The UK’s national event for Srebrenica will be taking place on this day in London. If you have not received your ticket yet, and would like to attend, please call the office urgently on 0121 454 3343 or contact
  • Wednesday 12th July “Words and Music Commemorating the Genocide” at St James’s Church, Piccadilly. A beautiful concert to mark the genocide, with musicians from the Sarajevo National Theatre, Royal Academy of Music, and the Elysian Singers. Speakers will include Lord Paddy Ashdown and Mother of Srebrenica, Munira Subašić.
  • Thursday 13th July “Halima’s Path” at The Finborough Theatre. An opportunity to watch an award-winning film featuring the powerful story of Halima, and her search for her son during the war in Bosnia. Help us to shine a spotlight on the struggles of the women of Bosnia to mark this year’s theme.
  • Sunday 16th July Join Remembering Srebrenica Community Champions and supporters for a ‘peace march’ which will be taking place across London, stopping at diverse faith institutions along the way. This march mirrors the ‘Most Mira’ which takes place in Srebrenica every year to remember those who fled for their lives during the genocide.
